CBSE Papers : Method of Learning Mathematics
Now you move up the ladder of education, maths gets complicated and more in-depth in concepts. You will learn more stuffs and maths tools to solve complex math questions. The learning taxonomy increases into the application level and beyond where reasoning plays a more important role. The challenge of real understanding and analytical skill in handling maths questions becomes an assessment item. How then can we memorize this vast reservoir of math materials, mathematical concepts, methods, procedures and formulas, without connecting them to concepts for understanding?
It is true that this method of learning maths is inappropriate if you moves up into higher level of learning. There, math learning requires in-depth understanding before we can apply any mathematical tools to solve maths questions. Learning by heart only gives us a head start. Finally this type of memorization method has to be substituted by improved ways of learning math as a point of saturation will be encountered if you continue with the learning by heart method. Many students that I met who stuck on with the learning by heart method during higher learning finally surrendered after being unable to handle that level of math complexity and tasks given. Frustrated and disappointed, they faced the dreadful math anxiety having applied an inappropriate learning maths method at that education level.
