IIT JEE Exam Preparation
IIT JEE, Joint Entrance Examination of Indian Institute of Technology, is used as criteria for admission to undergraduate courses at the seven IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Roorkee), IT BHU, Varanasi, and ISM Dhanbad. IIT JEE is conducted by any one of the IITs.
Eligibility for IIT JEE:
Candidates wishing to appear for IIT JEE must have passed (10+2) or equivalent with at least 60% (55% for SC/ST and PD) marks in aggregate in their respective Board Examination. Those appearing in 10+2 exam are also eligible. A candidate can attempt IIT JEE only twice in consecutive years. Candidates, who join any of the IITs, IT-BHU Varanasi and ISM Dhanbad through JEE, are not permitted to appear in JEE in future. The upper age limit is relaxed by five years for SC/ST and PD candidates.
IIT JEE Exam Pattern:
There are two papers: Paper 1 & Paper 2. Both the papers have three separate sections on Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics. The papers are of objective type and are designed to test comprehension and analytical ability of candidates. Those candidates who clear the JEE and are desirous of joining the B. Arch and B. Des. Courses are required to appear in an Aptitude Test conducted at each counseling Institute. The test is of two hours duration Candidates who fail in the Aptitude Test are not eligible for admission to either B. Arch. or B. Des. Courses.
Syllabus for IIT JEE:
The syllabus of IIT JEE is of 10+2 level. The syllabus broadly covers the 11 and 12 class syllabus of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
Requirement of papers for different courses
B.E/B.TECH – Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics
B.ARCH/B. PLANNING - Mathematics, Aptitude Test & Drawing Test
Scoring and Negative Marking
For each incorrect response, one third of the total marks allotted to the question would be deducted. No deduction from the total score will, however, be made if no response is indicated for an item in the answer sheet. Each question is of 3 Marks and 1 Mark deducted for each incorrect answer. The candidates are advised not to attempt such item in the answer sheet if they are not sure of the correct response. Each question can only have one correct answer. More than one answer indicated against a question will be deemed as incorrect response and will be negatively marked. Candidates can opt for question papers either in English or in Hindi.
