CBSE Papers : Marking scheme for social science paper changed

In view of the recommendations of the National Curriculum Framework, 2005, to give equal weightage to four components of CBSE class X social science paper (history, geography, political science and economics), eight marks allocated to disaster management have been reallocated to them.

The evaluation of disaster management will now be done through project work and assignments. Now, each component of the social Science paper will be of 20 marks. Earlier, history, geography, political science and economics had been assigned 22, 22, 18 and 18 marks, respectively.

According to the new marking scheme, the syllabus for social science has been updated and will be effective from 2010 onwards.

Students will now be required to study four themes in

Unit 1 (history) India and the Contemporary World II.

Unit 2 (geography), India Resources and Their Development, the topic on ‘Forest and Wildlife Resources’ will be included in the board examination, 2010, and onwards.

Sub-topics given in chapter 4 of NCERT’s geography textbook – Contemporary India Part II, namely Food Security (page 44) and Impact of Globalization on Agriculture (page 46) will remain deleted.
