For exposure and in-depth knowledge of social issues, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to include a 20-mark practical in its sociology paper for students appearing for their Class XII examinations in 2010.

Under the project, the students will visit old-age homes and slums, and interact with senior citizens, slum dwellers and children. The exercise will help schoolchildren to gather knowledge about their way of living.

The sociology paper for Class XII examination will now consist of 80 marks theory and 20 marks practical project. The practical will be evaluated by external examiners.

According to the CBSE circular, theory question paper of 80 marks for the passage-based question can also be taken from any magazine or newspaper but it will be essentially based on the theme or content prescribed in the board’s syllabus.
