One chance for improvement : Class IX exam

The Central Board of School Education (CBSE) has asked all its affiliated schools to give only “one attempt” to Class IX students who get an EI or E2 grade in the recently concluded exams.

According to the circular, “The students of class IX who have obtained grade ‘E1′ or ‘E2′ in one or more subjects excluding additional subject may be allowed to improve their performance in the second summative assessment through subsequent one attempt and such students would not be eligible for getting admission in class X till they improve their performance.”

Unlike their seniors in class X, who are eligible for five attempts under the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) scheme, those in class IX are restricted to one only.

The reason attributed to such a move is the administrative difficulties, which the schools might face.

The one chance of improvement of performance is to be given preferably within a period of one month from the date of declaration of the results by the schools, the CBSE said.
